CODEPU’s LOGO
The dove, CODEPU’s logo was designed by Fernando Vergara Vargas (1948-1984), a former political prisoner, expelled from the country and exiled in Mexico. His training as a designer began at the Ramona Parra Brigade and continued at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Chile.
His works in Mexico were exhibited in Art Galleries; On two occasions he won design competitions. His signs and posters toured the world.
He drew this dove thinking about her daughter Barbara. At the beginning of December 1984, he handed it to his daughter’s mother. He lived in hiding in Chile, engaged in the fight against the dictatorship.
Fernando was killed by the security forces of the Pinochet regime on December 15, 1984, on Santa Elvira Street, in Santiago.
A year later, his friends and colleagues donated this dove to CODEPU, which has since become the Logo of the institution.
